tripvineTripvine (AOL Travel): Today is Friday, January 1, 2010 and here are 5 great New Orleans events you might want to check out this weekend:

Sugar Bowl: Even if you’re not going to the game, the Sugar Bowl is sure to pack the Quarter and Canal Street with Bearcat and Gator fans. The Fan Fest takes place today from 12-6 p.m., and the Fan Jam kicks off at 4 p.m. tomorrow near Gate C and features food, interactive games, live entertainment and music by the AlleyCats.

A day at the Markets: Enjoy a day at the markets on Saturday and explore the Crescent City Farmer’s Market, the Freret Market and the Gretna Market. This weekend at the Freret Market, you can catch live music by Seguenon Kone, Bill Summers’ Klub Kids and JD Hill & the Jammers.

Live Music: There’s a lot of great music at the clubs this weekend. Tonight, you can catch Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas at Rock and Bowl, J Monque’d Blues Band at Le Bon Temps Roule, Soul Rebels at Blue Nile. Saturday: Zoso at House of Blues, Big Sam’s Funky Nation at Blue Nile, Hot 8 Brass Band at Howlin’ Wolf, Anders Osborne at Rock and Bowl.

New Year’s Resolution Race: Resolutions never seem to last but if you’re just looking for a fun 5K and one-mile race, head to the trailhead in Covington tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. for the New Year’s Resolution Race for a race benefiting the American Cancer Society.

Saints vs. Panthers: The Saints may be playing away in North Carolina on Sunday but sports bars in the area are sure to be packed with black and gold fans. The last regular-season game starts at noon on Fox Channel 8.
