PackandExplore-web-site-sizePackandexplore.com: After you’ve been to the Smithsonian, the Guggenheim, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Louvre, you might be looking for something more than your average run of the mill museum. There are a lot of dumb museums out there (such as the Barf Bag Museum and the Spam Museum) but then there are the museums that shock and sicken you. These are the totally crazy ass museums that make you cringe before you even enter the doors, hurl halfway through the tour or question why you even came there in the first place.

Whether you’re looking to learn more about death, want to view a massive collection of severed penises or just want to learn more about the history of toilets, here are 7 crazy ass museums to quench your curiosity:

Museum of Death
Hollywood, California

While this museum might give you nightmares and make your stomach churn, it’s likely the kind of place that would make John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer proud. Originally founded in San Diego in 1995, the museum features the world’s largest collection of serial killer artwork along with photos of Charles Manson crime scenes and of the Black Dahlia Murders. There’s also the severed head of Blue Beard of Paris along with a body bag and coffin collection and antique mortuary equipment. Other things include videos of autopsies and serial killers, the Heaven’s Gat Cult recruiting video and real death footage. The self guided tour takes about 45 minutes but movies play for hours here and you’re welcome to stay as long as you want, or until you’re ready to hurl. The web site reports that a number of people have passed out at the museum.

Mummy Museum
Guanajuato, Mexico

The Mummy Museum in central Mexico is the only museum in the world solely dedicate to mummified corpses. There are more than 100 mummies here on display, many in various states of decay. Some still have their eyebrows and skin intact, some have their faces half ripped off, some have missing fingers and limbs and others barely look human. There are even a couple of cut infant mummies including a super tiny baby (died during a C-section) which ranks as the tiniest mummy in the world. It sounds and is a little grotesque but once you see your first few corpses, you’ll get over it and could easily spend a couple of hours examining decaying bodies up close.
