Is the Nicaragua Canal viable? (Planning Magazine/American Planning Association)

A Chinese infrastructure development firm, HKDN Group, and the government of Nicaragua recently announced that construction on the Nicaragua Canal will start this December – not long before major improvements to the Panama Canal are completed. The Nicaragua Canal will be one of the biggest civil engineering projects in the world, with an estimated price tag of $60 billion and a construction timeline of more than a decade.
